The Duty of Care regulations, which are covered by section 34 of The Environment Act 1990, came into effect on 1st April 1992. These regulations apply to everyone who has control of waste at any stage from creation to final waste disposal. This means that it is your responsibility to ensure that your waste is legally disposed of.
How is the Duty of Care enforced?
The regulations require the waste producer (you, the customer), the waste carrier and the waste disposer to provide a written audit trail for each consignment of waste. As a producer of waste you must take reasonable measures to ensure that your waste is
- Secure, properly contained in the skip and presents no risk to the environment while it is stored on your premises
- Accurately described on a Waste Transfer Note
- Only carried by a licensed waste carrier and taken to a properly licensed facility.
Waste Disposal
Bucks Recycling Limited is a registered waste carrier (registration no TWE675279) operating 2 Waste Transfer Stations licensed by The Environment Agency (WML 86240 / WML). All waste collected is sorted for recyclable materials, which means you are fully compliant with the pre-treatment legislation which prohibits certain materials like cardboard, for example, to be land filled. In addition to on site waste recycling, we work in close partnership with a number of specialist Materials Recycling Facilities (MRF). For example, the mercury is removed from fluorescent tubes by a specialist who visits our site periodically.
